a bit about me

My name is Erica and I am a third year student of International Development and
Globalization at the University of Ottawa. My interests are very broad, but in a nutshell, I am intrigued by the political and philosophical dimensions that underlie people’s everyday assumptions and actions.

The dreams I’ve had of travelling have slowly evolved over the past two years. Where did it come from? Why travelling itself, but no particular destination? For the adventure, the spontaneity, or the adrenaline? Not quite. For me, it must be the desire for something different. And the need to challenge my own opinions while embracing new modes of thinking and living. Perspectives on the world are much too narrowly focused when we take our assumptions for granted and forget about how we are wrong. I intend to have experiences I have never experienced before.

My placement is in Phnom Penh, Cambodia as a Rector’s Assistant within the English Department at the IIC University of Technology. More information about the work I’ll be doing can be found within the link titled ‘the internship’ at the top right corner of this page.
